British Red Cross Independent Living Services |

The British Red Cross Independent Living Services respond to people’s short-term health and social care needs. At times of crisis, transition and change the Red Cross provides practical and emotional support. In Swindon our Home from Hospital service supports people in the first few weeks after they go home from hospital. A trained volunteer visits once or twice a week (for about six weeks) to offer practical help such as shopping, or to provide companionship and encouragement. There is no payment for this service. Anyone who is interest in receiving help or in becoming a volunteer should call Janet Doran on 01793 646376. |

Many people require the short-term use of a wheelchair or commode. The British Red Cross operates a Medical Equipment Service that can loan equipment to people for up to three months. The service operates from our depot in Wootton Bassett and equipment can be collected on any weekday morning. We do not have a set charge but rely on the generous donations of borrowers to help fund the service. You can call 01793 853723 for more information or to book a piece of equipment. Please call this same number if you are interest in volunteering for this service. You will be issuing equipment to people, keeping records and taking phone calls. We always welcome new volunteers to help with these services. We offer full training and expenses and a friendly working environment. |
