Coming to Stay as an In-Patient

Agreeing a date for your admission

Improved national waiting times mean that most patients can expect to be admitted for their first treatment/surgery within 18 weeks from the time their GP referred them.

You will be offered the first available date for your treatment and we aim to give you three weeks notice of a date. If the date you are offered is not convenient a second date will be offered.

It is essential that you let us know if you are unable to attend the agreed date. Non attendance or cancellation at short notice would mean you will not be offered a further date and will be returned to your GP for further care unless there are exceptional circumstances.

What to Bring

Some basic items will be required for your stay

  • Toiletries/wash bag/towel
  • Nightdress/pyjamas
  • Dressing gown/housecoat
  • Slippers
  • Moist wipes
  • Gentlemen – own razors
  • Book or magazine
  • Notebook/pen
  • Any medication currently prescribed
  • Please try to avoid bringing in personal valuables as we cannot accept responsibility for personal property. If this is unavoidable, please hand any valuables to the ward sister when you arrive who will then register the items and issue a receipt. Your valuables will then be taken to security for safe storage.
