Patients are admitted to the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) either via the Emergency Department or direct from the GP. On the SAU, both the nursing staff and the surgical doctors on call will assess you. A decision on your treatment can be made after a review by the surgical registrar or consultant. If you need to stay in hospital, you will probably move to another surgical ward within the hospital. Alternatively you may be discharged. Please be aware that information regarding a relative's or friend's diagnosis cannot be given over the telephone due to confidentiality. If you or your family have any concerns or complaints regarding your care then please do not hesitate to speak to the nurse in charge of the SAU at the time. |
