Preventing Infection

Preventing Infection in your hospital

Visitors are asked to please:

  • Clean your hands using the alcohol gel provided on entering and leaving the ward/department
  • Avoid sitting on patients’ beds
  • Avoid visiting the hospital if you are unwell, or have been in contact with an infectious disease such as diarrhoea, vomiting, measles or chicken pox.
  • Leave the bedside when patient care is being provided
  • Leave the bedside if cleaning of the area is taking place

Sometimes further measures will need to be in place when there are additional infection risks. You will be advised of these at the time of your visit. Please see also the ‘cleanyourhands’ campaign.

We encourage you to challenge practices if you feel they are unsatisfactory
