Our Facilities. Hazel ward has four 4-bed bays with shared bathroom facilities next door to them. There are hand-washing facilities within each bay. Hazel ward is equipped with electronic beds and patients will be shown how to use the hand control on admission to the ward. Meals and hot drinks are provided for patients throughout the day. Breakfast is delivered to patients at their bedside around 08.00. A mini canteen system operates on the ward for both the lunchtime meal at around 12.30 and evening meal at around 17.30, where patients can select meals. Staff will be happy to assist patients who are unable to get to collect their own meals. Provision will be made for all patients with medical, ethnic or other dietary requirements. Staff will ensure hot drinks are provided at set times during the day. The trust uses Patientline entertainment systems, which combine cable television, radio, telephone, and will soon offer Internet services. Each bed on Hazel ward is equipped with a screen. Patients can activate the system by contacting the operator on admission to the ward and they will be given a personal telephone number which relatives can use to contact them. If patients move to a different bed or ward they can retain the same telephone number for the whole of their stay. Some services require pre-paid cards, which can be purchased throughout the hospital including on Hazel Ward. Amenity Rooms. Hazel ward offers women the opportunity to request a side room with en-suite bathroom at a cost of £100 per stay. If you wish to book an amenity room please inform staff on admission to the ward. Further information is available from your community midwife. If you attend a tour of the unit you will have the opportunity to view amenity rooms. Security. Due to the nature of the ward, it is a secure unit. All visitors to the ward need to use the intercom system on the wall outside the door to gain access. Please ensure that all visitors know the full name of the person they are visiting, otherwise access may be denied. Electronic baby tagging is in operation on Hazel ward. All babies when delivered wear a tag around their ankle. An alarms sound if a baby is near any ward exits and staff are alerted to which entrance to ensure security for our babies. Hand washing. In the interest of infection control, good hand washing practices are promoted for all staff, patients and visitors to the ward. We require all visitors to wash their hands using the alcohol gel located on the wall outside, before entering the ward. If there are any patients or visitors with known allergies or skin conditions where this may not be appropriate, they are encouraged to discuss this with the staff on the ward. Our Philosophy. We are guided by codes of practice and are required to achieve an agreed standard of care for each client. It is our aim to always have a sensitive and flexible approach to the individual's needs and wishes. Staff and clients have the right to be spoken to with courtesy and in a friendly manner. We will make available to the client a member of staff who can deal with enquiries on their behalf. The staff should actively seek to improve their knowledge for the benefit of patient care and to instruct and educate other midwives, students and health professionals. |
