||
The Delivery Suite has 12 delivery rooms, two admission rooms, two maternity theatres and a specialised room with birthing pool. Our main focus is to care for women during their labour and delivery but we also care for women who are having a planned caesarean section along with high-risk antenatal and postnatal women. |

Visiting Policy. The visiting policy on Delivery Suite is that during labour, women can have two adult birthing partners of their choice with them. Due to the nature of the unit, all other visiting is restricted and is at the discretion of the midwife responsible for the woman’s care and the delivery suite co-ordinator. The Delivery Suite is not considered a suitable environment for children and only in exceptional circumstances will children be admitted. |

Our Facilities. All delivery rooms have en-suite facilities, for the comfort and convenience of our patients. They are fully equipped with modern equipment to care for both mother and baby, including emergency equipment to ensure the safety of women and babies in our care. Assessment rooms are used on a short-term basis where midwives can see patients on admission and establish a plan of care before moving them to a delivery room, Hazel ward or sending them home. |

Choice is important to us at the maternity unit so we are pleased that we have a large birthing pool and are able to offer this facility as an option for labour and delivery. Midwives on delivery are trained to provide safe care for women using the birthing pool. We would advise that if you would like a water-birth or to use the pool during your labour that you inform staff on admission as the pool will take approximately 1 hour to fill due to its size. Our policy relating to which patients are able to use the birthing pool safely is dictated by relevant recent research in this area. There may be some women who, for medical reasons, will be advised that a water-birth may not be appropriate for them. The midwife looking after you will discuss the use of the pool and the policy with you on an individual basis. |

| The Delivery Suite has electronic delivery beds in all rooms designed to aid and assist the needs of the labouring woman. For example, they can be adjusted to support several differing positions for labour and delivery. On admission staff will show patients how they can use the panel on the bed to adjust their own position. | ![]() |

| Security. The Delivery Suite is a secure unit. All visitors need to use the intercom system on the wall outside the door to gain access. Please ensure that all visitors know the full name of the person they are visiting, otherwise access may be denied. Electronic baby tagging is in operation on the Delivery Suite. All babies, when delivered, wear a tag around their ankle. Alarms sound if a baby is near an exit and staff are alerted to ensure security for our babies. | ||
Hand Washing. In the interest of infection control good hand washing practices are promoted for all staff, patients and visitors to the unit. We require all visitors to wash their hands using the alcohol gel located on the wall outside, before entering the unit. If there are any patients or visitors with known allergies or skin conditions where this may not be appropriate they are encouraged to discuss this with the staff on the unit. |
