For Children

Speech and Language Therapists (SALTs) work with children of all ages who have difficulties with communication and / or swallowing.

There is a wide range of conditions and their communication difficulties may be with language, pronunciation, voice, fluency or often a combination of these.

The Swindon SALTs provide assessment, diagnosis, management, advice and information to children with communication and swallowing difficulties who are served by the local Swindon Primary Care Trust.  We also provide these services to some children with specialist SALT needs whose GPs are in the eastern part of the Kennet and North Wiltshire PCT.  This arrangement is via a service level agreement between the Great Western NHS Foundation Trust and Wiltshire Primary Care Trust.

The Swindon Children’s SALTs work in many settings.  We have working partnerships with many multi-disciplinary teams, other health trusts, agencies such as the local authority, individual schools and charities.

The Children’s SALTs are divided between the 4 Integrated Locality Teams and the Integrated Team for Disabled Children, and are managed in those 5 teams.  Bridget Guy is the Professional Lead for Children’s Speech and Language Therapy.
