How to access our services Self referral. You are able to self access our services by directly contacting us. GP referral. A referral is required from your GP for patients with private health insurance.

Outpatient Consultation If during your appointment a decision is made to proceed with surgery, a member of our nursing team will complete the necessary pre-assessment checks. Pre-admission Assessment If you require a procedure, you may be required to attend a pre-assessment clinic prior to coming in for your treatment. Alternatively, you may receive a pre-assessment telephone call from a nurse requesting some health details. These are to ensure that you are well enough for your surgery and to confirm that you understand everything in relation to your hospital stay. We will also discuss your actual procedure and the best way to aid recovery Emergency Admissions If you are admitted to hospital as an emergency patient and would like to become a private patient, please inform a member of staff who will arrange for you to be transferred to the Shalbourne Suite. This will be dependent on the Consultant agreeing to treat you as a private patient. |

| What to expect when coming into hospital We fully understand that a hospital visit can be unsettling, so we go to great lengths to alleviate any apprehension you may have about your treatment and your stay, whether you are coming to us as an in, day or out-patient. We will make every effort to ensure you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible during your time with us. |

Your stay at the Shalbourne Suite If you are visiting as a day case or an in-patient, there are a number of items you may wish to bring with you. What to bring with you: Nightwear - dressing gown & slippers Toiletries (although some are provided) Any medicine you require, sufficient for your stay, in the original packaging If you are staying for a few days or longer you may prefer to bring casual clothing and books. Children may gain comfort from their favourite toy. Patients undergoing hip or knee surgery are advised to bring shorts, a loose skirt, trousers or a track suit, together with comfortable shoes to wear during post-operative physiotherapy. What to leave at home We advise that you do not bring valuables or large sums of money, if at all possible. If you wish to bring personal electrical equipment please inform the nurse on admission. When you arrive On arrival please report to reception, where your admission details will be confirmed. You will be escorted to your room and once you are settled, one of the nurses will show you how the nurse call system, telephone & television works. They will also check your blood pressure, pulse, temperature and urine. Your surgeon and the anaesthetist will visit you before your surgery and answer any questions or concerns you may have. |

During your stay Please ensure that you make all necessary preparations for your operation, including removing jewellery, nail varnish and cosmetics. After your treatment you will be able to relax in the comfort of your own room. A member of the team will visit you daily to discuss your menu choice. All meals are freshly made using healthy ingredients to aid your recovery. |

| When you Leave You will be advised by your consultant or your nurse when you are able to go home and will be given any medication to take away with you. Please be aware that you must not drive a car, ride a bicycle, operate machinery or drink alcohol 24 hours after an anaesthetic. If you need to see your consultant again following your discharge, an out-patient appointment will be made before you leave or you will be notified of your appointment as soon as possible after your discharge. If you have any concerns or questions after you have been discharged, please telephone the ward and a nurse will be able to help and advise. |
