Adolescent Inpatient / Day Patient Unit

Marlborough House is a dynamic inpatient service in an exciting development phase as we prepare for an expansion both in bed numbers and range of therapeutic options.

We are part of a wider CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) and Child Health Service and have a strong commitment to training, professional development and supervision.  The unit is a high quality, multidisciplinary service providing a specialist resource to Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

In our therapy, we work with young people and their families, encouraging open, honest and meaningful communication. We aim to encourage flexibility and creativity.

We look for staff who are thoughtful about their work and have the potential to facilitate these qualities in others.

Service Provision

The unit is self contained on the hospital site and offers both inpatient and day patient facilities. Therapy is provided within the unit and education is provided from the in-house school.

The inpatient unit has 12 beds, all single rooms, and this includes a dependancy area.  We also have up to six places for young people to attend on a daily basis.  A comprehensive out-patient service is provided in the adjacent building.

We are primarily a seven day service, although young people return to their home base at weekends if this is feasible.  The adolescent unit offers specialist psychiatric services to Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, and on occasions takes referrals from Bath and North East Somerset.

Staffing

The nursing team consists of the Nurse Manager, Deputy Nurse Manager, Staff Nurses and Therapy Assistants.

Our multi-disciplinary team consists of Psychotherapist, Psychologist, and Educational Staff.

The medical team comprises two Child and Adolescent Physiotherapists, plus a Specialist Registrar with a visiting Paediatrician.

Education Links

We have close links with the University of the West of England (Bristol). Other education and development opportunities are available through our own training department.

Induction Programme
For all new members of staff, we offer a comprehensive induction and mentorship package.  Staff have the opportunity of being supernumerary for a period to allow them to orientate themselves to the unit. For newly qualified staff, the Bridging Gap course will be available.
