Blood Samples

The out-patients blood sampling (phlebotomy) department is open from 8.30 am to 4.15 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays). We generally see patients in order of attendance, but we do give priority to certain categories of patients, and some patients require their tests at specific times.

Patients with request forms from their own GP and patients who are being monitored by the anti-coagulation department ('Yellow Book patients') are no longer seen in the department and they should attend their own surgery or the walk-in centre in Carfax Street in Swindon.

Any child under the age of 16 years will be seen by one of our paediatric blood sample specialists (phlebotomists) in the out-patients department. We do ask that the child be booked in advance, as some children (especially under 3 years old) may need to have the procedure undertaken by a paediatric doctor instead.
